Classics Trips

Germany

Teachers may not have considered Germany as a Classics trip destination, but there is a lot to be said for it.

Germany has more reconstructed Roman buildings than anywhere else I know. There's a limes fort with an excellent museum, and potentially a whole town at Xanten. The Germans are good at drawing people in to Roman things. One example is the Ausoniusstrasse, a hiking path that follows the route that the late Roman poet Ausonius took from Bingen to the Moselle - he wrote about it in his poem Mosella.
